If I drag an drop an OBJ mesh (DEM data) into Rhino I’ll have to Reset render settings to default for the rendered mode to get the new look.

It doesn’t make sense to me that I have to reset a newly opened file, or am I missing something?
Those render settings are document properties, aren’t they? So it will depend on whether you import or open. If you import your default template settings are used and those are probably reset to the correct settings but when you open a obj file I’m not sure which template is used.
Yes, my point exactly, and it should be the default, as in the same default as “reset” refers to imo.

If you drag an OBJ onto a file, it should not reset or affect the render settings in any way. So the behaviour will depend entirely on what file you had open before you did the dropping.
Andy, I draged it in and chose “open”, not insert.
