For the longest time I’ve been developing a script for a timber frame where I put all the wood planks through a custom preview node with a wooden material such that I can see the end result of the construction:
And somehow I was able to have it so that the custom preview was always visible, whereas the rest of the nodes wre not visible unless selected. This made it easy to select certain nodes to get them visible in the viewport while still always having the wooden preview as a “baseline”
But now for some reason, I have lost this nice setup. If I turn on “Only draw preview geometry for selected objects” the custom preview and every other node will only show up when selected (makes sense) but if I don’t have that turned on I can see the preview because it’s visible, but now I need to toggle the visibility of every other node to be able to see it, which also makes sense but is much more long-winded than just selecting them to see what they represent in the viewport.

Does anyone know how I can get back my workflow of being able to see the custom preview at all times, but ALSO only show the other nodes when selected? I’m quite confused as to how I used to have this but now I don’t. Is there some setting that I’ve missed?
