Never seen this one before - what does this mean and what am I supposed to do…?

Edit: OK, I was able to open it in Illustrator and re-export, but it would be good to understand why it failed. The file came from Affinity Designer, I don’t think it’s that old…

Actually, even though is coming from Affinity Designer, it is in fact an old format. Could you try changing the extension from .eps to .AI and see what happens when opening it?
