Odd render area when material applied on the a SubD object

I have this shape created in SubD. I just assigned this material, but get the weird area where the material seems to not follow the rest. object.3dm (1.1 MB)

what mapping style are you using? decal? surface mapping? planar?

object.3dm (1.2 MB)

is this nurbs, or a subd object? If subd, does it get better if you convert to nurbs?

surfaces are Subd
objectv6.3dm (1.1 MB)

Thanks. That solved it.
I have no idea what those selections mean/do. Every time I attempt to apply materials in Rhino the result is never what I expect. No classes, tutorials, or other efforts have helped me get it. Material application is like a digital great wall with well applied concrete map that stops me from going further. Sometimes I really feel like I’m going backwards with Rhino.

Started as a SubD elipsoid. I then added the crackle finish to my materials. Selected the object, then right clicked on the material and picked assign. I did nothing else.

does if get better if you use tonurbs and reapply the texture?
