Continuing the discussion from Rhino 8 for Mac is a massive regression in UI, UX and function:
Hi, any news about fixing this mess? It doesen’t even have the YouTrack request yet… I’m not a programmer, but I don’t think that simply rearranging the elements would be very complicated.
RH-81116 Properties panel wastes space
- too short for longer layer names
I think this relates to 1
RH-81117 Layer icon of properties panel graphic issues
I’ll ask if it makes sense to link their size to the size of the panel tabs. Looking at Rhino 7, these icons always have been bigger.
It seems this was only a feature in Rhino 5 for Mac as far as I can see.
It might be, but it’s very helpful if you can minimize sections like “Rendering” or “Render mesh settings”, which are not very useful in most cases. Also in other Properties sections like “Properties: Materials” there is a posibility to minimalize categories, so this feels more like a bug than a design intention…
Anyway, this is no major problem. I just pointed that up because i noticed the change.
re 5: I added also RH-81123 Properties panel: collapsible sections
re 4: This needs a bit more investigation to see what the consequences are. As mentioned, it has been like this for many versions. Dale pointed out that for example in this dialog, having the icons smaller might cause confusion. The bigger icons represent a higher hierarchy:
Thanky you for adding this issue.
Yes, I can see that, but I think that if you just swap the search field and icons there will be no confusion. Or just adding a simple divider, like the one in Object?
I checked this YouTrack request and found out, that it’s postponed to V9.0 . Is this really a final decision? This is one of the worst graphic bugs in V8. I was hoping it would be fixed as soon as possible, not in the next Rhino…
