.obj import error V6.6

A simple .obj file is getting an “Error importing file” in Rhino 6 on Windows. The same file opens fine in V5 for Mac. I can save the file as a .obj from V5 Mac, and it imports fine in V6.6 on Windows.

I’ve uploaded the original .obj here.

Any ideas?

Same problem here. Using the latest Rhino 6.6, I get the same “Error importing file” using this .obj file which opens perfectly in Rhino5 for Windows:

untitled.zip (110.2 KB)

Any ideas?

There have been fixes to OBJ import that are in newer service release. The current one is 6.8, so you are 2 versions behind.

Here a quick render with Raytraced in 6.8

I get the same “Error importing file” when trying to import an .obj file. I’ve tried several obj files and get the same error each time. I’m using the latest version (6.13). The .obj files open fine in Rhino 5. Is there a checkbox I am missing somewhere?

Hi - could you please upload an .obj file that is giving you problems?
Thanks!

Hi everybody,

recently I have problems importing a simple obj.-file to rhino saying “Error importin obj.-file”. Wasn´t a problem prior to the latest service release 6.28.
I attached a test file.

any ideas?

Thx a lot in advance
Cheers

Hi - when I open this file here, I get this:

Unable to find or open Model.mtl. Materials will be ignored.

But the 3d object imports fine.
Note that it is only 0.489 by 0.489 by 0.487 units big and if you import this into a crowded scene, you might use Zoom Selected to find it.

Thanks for the answer. Strangely enough it now opens the file as intended, the tiny dimension are due to the structure sensor which is either scaling it down or up somehow depending on the dimension I select in rhino. Apparently it depends on the obj.-file sometimes it works sometime it doesn´t, I tried some other scans some of them worked just fine some didn´t…

Anyway thx a lot!!
Chris

Hi, I am getting the same message of “error importing file” for an obj file. I was able to import several others but not this one. I am currently using Rhino 6.34 (i think)
