OBJ import 32bit texture option

When importing OBJ files, there is an option to Split 32-bit textures into separate files.

I realise this may seem like an obvious question, but what is this doing? I ask because I’ve got some files with quite a lot of texture info that I’m importing.

When I leave that option unchecked, the files import really quickly. If I check that option, it takes forever (still waiting for over an hour).

I’m currently trying with the option checked checked because I found that when importing without it, all looked good until saving as a 3DM file. Then areas of the textures went distorted and bright blue.

I suppose my question is: will this option fix the weird texture artefacts and therefore is it worth waiting for this crazy long import process to finish?
