I’m trying to make this 2d shape into a 3d mesh.
I initially used NetworkSrf to build most of it… but now I’m stumped on how to create/fill the last missing parts.
I have a full 2D shape that I trimmed the ‘ends’ of this crescent shape. Then used NetworkSrf to get the majority of what I need. I just don’t know what tool/step would be ideal to get this crescent ends to connect/build to the surface.
So I can then create a mesh to use in Zbrush/3Dcoat.
In the future, what would be the best way to achieve what I’m trying to do here.
‘Inflate’ a 2D shape, similar to an extrude… but with a slope and taper.
Also, without all the wavy surface features…
I think the last set of images are in the view port’s Render mode. If so, please change to Ray Trace mode- and see what you get.
You can also select the object [before you convert it to a mesh- or maybe you can get what you want working with the mesh object? ] >properties > Render Mesh Settings> check the box-Custom Mesh > Adjust. In Rhino 8 a very nice feature [ I think this is new?] is there are some presets you can use-- and F1 will take you to the related help page.
No those last set of images are screenshots from inside of 3DCoat, where I voxelized the mesh I had Rhino make.
I then started smoothing out the lumps and wavy mesh from Rhino.
Ultimately, I’m going to work the mesh, so I can then 3D print it out.
I just wish I could have gotten a smoother model surface from Rhino. I’m not sure how to best make the 3D mesh/model I’m trying to get.
I think from my screenshots, you can see I need to puff up, or inflate that 2D shape. However, I need that extrusions to be tapered at the sides, have a rounded top surface, and the entire top surface then slopes from higher height to lower height.
How could one go about , trying to make a surface the way I describe? Which tool is best? NetworkSRF is what I used… to get close
Hi dreko, im a novice as well but i think it would be easier to actually use sub-division tools to create this instead, because that way you can actually control the points instead of leaving it all to the system to “guess” what you’re trying to achieve.
Interesting. I haven’t used any of the SubD tools inside Rhino8.
What workflow would use suggest? I don’t see a NetworkSRF command under the SubD menu.
im using rhino 7 currently, majority of the tools should be the same in rhino 8 as well but what i usually do is build a surface > convert into subd > Convert to subd ( Tool is called ToSubd ) and from there i adjust the points to the right areas, or if you have a mesh which in your case you do, you can convert it into subd straight away,
It might not convert into the desired shape so you should keep a copy of the original before converting to subd. From there you just have to move the points the right areas.
I suggest turning these filters on so you can selelct the points, surfaces, vertexs and curves/edges.
