Not-joining objects for rendering

It would be pretty helpful for a certain kind of models made for rendering if you could keep objects separate but have the render meshes line up like they are joined, the workflow of joining up objects and exploding the meshes, and having to reassign materials to the pieces just to avoid visible gaps is not fun. Now how to implement it I don’t know, just doing it to everything based on some tolerance could produce some hilariously broken results, ditto for making it a new “kind” of joining you do per-objects…maybe do it as an option to grouped geometry?
