Hi!
I notice that Metal material doesn’t show the texture in Rendered display mode.
I tried to change the UV mapping - but that’s not the problem.
Below, a surface using material by layer, with Metal dark green material assigned to layer. Surface object display mode set to rendered.
No texture visible.

Export a surface that has the material to a new 3dm file and attach that here. No-one will be able to otherwise help.
I assume you started with a Metal material, then changed its type to Physically Based material and added a texture.
Current guess would be incorrect texture mapping.
Quick test here:
nah, It’s the reflectivity. If you push it to 100% the texture becomes full invisible.
is this how it should be? a bit confusing…

Don’t use custom material type, change it to Physically Based. No other changes needed:

There are so many shortcomings to the Custom material - would it be worth considering adding (Legacy) to its name; maybe even “force-coverting” custom materials to PBR (starting from V9)?

I wouldn’t mind if that happened. PBR will be undergoing some changes at least under the hood as the plan is to move to OpenPBR spec.
But we’ll see how it goes with Custom material.

In my opinion, Custom is the most used material because nobody uses the other ones.

Custom is also very friendly. It provides everything from the start, all settings clearly visible and easy to access:

You are entitled to your opinion, but the custom material has outlived its usefulness - and as you see has its issues.
@nathanletwory , don’t get me wrong please, I am talking about the User Interface…
@nathanletwory , sorry to say, but PBR acts even more strange. If past 50% Metallic, the texture is gone.
