"new component family" error

Hello, and thanks in advance for any insight!

I’m trying to convert a surface from rhino to revit with a sub-category of roof.

The surface has already added with the sub-category successfully. However, when i connect roof category and sub-category brep into “New Component Family”, it comes to an error which is “The input category id cannot be assigned as the new category for this family”. But I already find the sub-category under the roof category.

Hi Sam,

The error you are getting is because your Template is a Generic Model. The Roof is a System Family & doesn’t have Family template.

There is a workaround, but you wouldn’t be creating a System Roof, just Geometry in the Roof Category in a Family, similar to a Direct Shape Type really.
