I’m experiencing several issues with named CPlanes, and I’m struggling to understand what’s going wrong. Here are the main problems I’m facing:
Projection issues: I cannot get geometry to project and clamp properly onto the named CPlane.
Restoration issues: I am unable to restore the named CPlane consistently across all views.
Drawing issues: In certain views, I cannot draw geometry properly when the named CPlane is active.
I’ve searched online and found several discussions where users have similar complaints and struggle to get named CPlanes working. Most of the suggested solutions involve resetting the CPlane, but this has not resolved the issues with Named Cplanes for many users.
Interestingly, when I use the CPlane command, select All=Yes, and manually position the CPlane, the old method seems to work perfectly fine. This makes me wonder if the named CPlanes tool is either buggy or fundamentally broken.
I’ve reviewed the available help documentation, but it hasn’t provided any useful insights.
Could someone from the community assist me with this? I’ve been informed that posting on the forums and gathering interest from many users is the only way the developers will respond.
any chance you could provide a file with some named cplanes in it and a quick screen recording on what you are seeing? If we can repro your issues we have a much better chance of fixing them.
+1 on this issue, it depends upon which view Top/Front/Side/Perspective your viewport is in when restoring a named cplane. If you’re in Top or Perspective view, restoring cplanes seems to work as expected.
Is it possible to setup an actual teams session for this? I can directly show everything I am having problems with and why his tool is a disaster.
I don’t believe this tool would be a small fix if there were so many articles with problems with it and thus I don’t believe just send you the file is adequate.
I found article after article after article and in some cases the requests for help were totally ignored entirely.
See I don’t even get that far. I can’t even get the project snap to work with this tool. I have used the Cplane command for over ten years and never had an issue and the named cplanes tool seems to work in a completely alien fashion or not at all.
Ideally a screen capture video that you could post here showing the issue allows us to get a quick consensus if this is wide spread or isolated. and gives us the documentation we need to get this to the dev team ideally for a fix.
if we do teams, we can certainly see your issue but it shuts out the rest of the user base from the discussion and we may miss additional problems that you aren’t seeing but others are. I’d love to gather as much info about all the problems everyone is having with this tool set and give it to eh dev team for a comprehensive fix instead of picking off a few issues here and there.
Also related? I just Inserted a block (a command I haven’t tried for many moons btw), and the geometry came in aligned to the Cplane. I would have expected it to be aligned to the WCS, but perhaps that’s just my opinion. I’m using a single window btw.
I have added a post to that linked topic which may shed some light on the confusion people experience.
@theoutside, it seems to me that one problem with the current CPlanes setup is that there is no way to see which CPlane actually applies currently in any viewport, so people may not realise that they are working with a different CPlane to the one that applied a short time ago.
So, as a wish: Could we add the current CPlane name to the Viewport properties panel (including the World trio as appropriate)? Could we also have the current view name, given the two go hand in hand (including Top, Front etc, and Cplane Top etc)? And as a view can be changed, perhaps the view name could be greyed once a change is made.
