I designed an aquatic center for the city of Smyrna, GA a couple of years ago. I had two weeks to design, model, and render (D5) all by myself, so there are quite a few things I wish I could have done better. But overall, I enjoyed the process quite a bit. It was also interesting to work with the engineers for the swimming pool and the waterslide design.
This is an article from an independent blog after the city hearing about the new aquatic center design and plan. They had some critique on planning, and as a designer, itās really refreshing to hear from general public about my design. There are things that I need to follow as to design requirements from the clientādonāt we all know this, but itās always a good reminder that how pretty and interesting a project looks isnāt really what the people are really focused on although thatās what I mostly focus on as a designer.
Coincidentally I just came across this when looking up stuff for D5 Render. All of that in two weeks is⦠pretty damn good! Great work!!
D5 feels pretty stout so far. I havenāt figured out the lighting, particular interior lighting. Rendering feels limited as well. I think the value will be better than Enscape especially if I can figure out the interior lighting.
For me so far Enscape really fit the bill. But it was expensive of course. And it looks like the parent company is leaning towards users having to subscribe to both V-Ray and Enscape - which means we can forget about Enscape and rendering. D5 looks like itās trying to develop an all-in-one solution (I hope!!!).
Twin Motion was free and had its perks. I realized that I would have to completely re-think the way I model my buildings if I ever expected to achieve anything presentable. Texture mapping hasnāt been friendly to me.
I struggle with certain UIās these days but I seem to be figuring out D5 way faster than others. It took me a while to figure out that āIā was how you select individual elements (I spent a good while trying to āexplodeā the import). I was also pretty tired and havenāt even bothered to read much support documents⦠considering that Iāve gotten quite far I think.
Among other things I havenāt even experimented with the AI yet.
Iāve used Vray, Enscape quite extensively in the past, and D5 is the best for what I do. Not perfect of course, but much better by far even without considering the lower pricing. I recommend you watch D5 YouTube channel. It does help.
