Hello, recently I bought an nvme drive for my laptop’s extra slot since I was having problems with storage, and I wanted to see what would be the best option or form to move Rhino 8 onto the new drive. Thank you very much
Hi Mario,
I if I understand correctly T\the best approach here is a clean reinstall to your new NVMe drive rather than trying to move/copy the existing installation. Rhino (like most Windows apps) embeds registry entries and paths during setup, so simply moving the folder won’t work reliably.
- Uninstall Rhino 8 from your current drive via Windows Settings > Apps (or Control Panel > Programs).
- Download the latest Rhino 8 installer from rhino3d.com/download.
- Run the installer - during setup, choose a custom install path and point it to your new NVMe drive (e.g.
D:\Program Files\Rhino 8\).
A few things to keep in mind:
- Your settings, toolbars, and templates are stored in your user profile folder (typically
C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\), not in the install directory, so those will carry over automatically after reinstall. - Any third-party plugins you had installed may need to be reinstalled separately, pointing to the new install location.
