For us architects the Monochrome display mode is very good for conceptual design as it black and white and edges are clearly defined. Like pen drawings.
But there are severe performance issues compared to for example “Shaded Mode”.
Would be possible to somehow improve the performance so that these modes become usable also for more complex models?
I’ve made a bit of a study and what actually makes the Monochrome mode are the two settings “Show Edges” & “Show Silhouettes”. Unchecking those increases the performance to approx the same speed as the other modes. But unchecking them also makes them quite unusable.
Would it be possible to somehow improve the speed of the creation of the linework?
The Monochrome display mode is a “technical” display mode, just like Technical, Artistic, and Pen. These display mode rely on a different set of display meshes and having two sets of display meshes for all objects will naturally have an impact in huge models or with less capable GPUs.
Have you tried modifying the Arctic display mode to also render edges? Perhaps that will get you close.
Apart from that, if you can upload a 3dm file that is slow on your system, we can have something to test optimizations on. Your SystemInfo data would then be good to have as well.

No worries, Erik.
You model is available to the developers to see if there is room for optimizations in this area. I don’t know when they will have a chance to take a much closer look.
