Modeling advice | Tree branch "Eye"

Hi,

I have these sliced plywood layers that contour a 3D scanned log.

There is an opening that will be an interface for a 3D printed insert that is supposed to look like a “Knot” or “eye” in a tree where a branch perhaps was removed. I made a first attempt at modeling this below:

So I am looking for some advice how to get a better result. Part of the issue is lofting from the discrete, jagged edges of the plywood to the circle. We need to grab these edges, shown in green, from the purple geometry:

I am sharing a partial model with the profiles. I would be very appreciative of any thoughts on how to move this forward!
