Mixed raster vector printing

Hi,

Will the broken printing of picture-frames and viewports in vector mode be fixed?
During V5 wip/beta we could print in vector mode, yet keeping picture-frames and viewports visible ( as embedded bitmaps) for a while now this is broken and iirc reported already.

Thanks
-Willem

I don’t believe this is broken. Only picture frames that are true rectangles can be printed with vector mode. If you’ve modified your picture frame by trimming or rotating, only raster will properly get the image printed.

Sorry, nope, not working here:

display mode in question:
WD_technical_silhouette.ini (11.1 KB)

Thanks

Are you using technical/silhouette on your main layout page? That would definitely be the cause if that were the case.

Hi Steve,

If you mean the page/layout is in a technical mode, then no, the layout is just a plain page/layout
(I suppose in wireframe or whatever the default; is)

I place a picture frame in layout-space, and a detail in my custom technical_silhouette mode
A detail in regular technical mode, does print in vector mode.
See here: VectorPrintTest.3dm (310.6 KB)

HTH, thanks

Not much help, I realize, but over here this works as it should, Willem.

Hi Wim,

Thanks for checking. So if you place a picture frame on a layout/page it does print in vector mode?
Did you also check the file I send (with my custom mode displaymode?) Not that you need to, but I’m curious upto what point it is working at your end.

-Willem

Hi Wiliem
I confirm layout page with pictureframe print Ok in vector mode.
Ciao Vittorio

Hi Willem,

your picture frame has a transparency map that is causing the problem.
Unchecking transp. map doesn’t help, you need to delete this and reinsert your picture frame.

Hi Violine,

I do not see this; even with a jpeg it is not printing in Vector Mode.

Hoi Willem,
No, it doesn’t work in your file. Also, when I use the bitmap that I tried in your file, that one does NOT print either. So there is something going on in your file. No time to fiddle with this at this point, I’m afraid… Indien niemand anders iets vindt kan ik er morgen nog wel eens naar kijken.
cheers,
wim

Thanks,

I’ll just wait for someone from RMA to check on this.

-Willem

Did you check your picture frame material properties?

I’m seeing what the other people here are seeing. Something is going wrong with that image. If I place a different picture frame in the layout, that picture frame prints just fine. I created a bug track entry (RH-22329) as a reminder for me to dig deeper into the problem when I get a chance.

Hi Steve,

Thanks. However it does not matter what Image I use as a pictureframe.
I drag dropped this image over a layout and created a pictureframe.

No vector print.

The problem with the display mode also still persists, did you get a chance to test and see if that does that print in vector mode at your end?

Can you think of something I might need to reset, edit, check? As apparently my system is not functioning as expected I’d like to fix it yet I have no clue where to look for a solution.

Thanks
-Willem

Well, THAT picture is special cased in Rhino to never print  Joking aside, that image does work on my Rhino.

Are your wireframe settings something other than default? You should be able to tell in the options dialog if the display mode is colored instead of just black.

Hi Steve,

No I’ve reset it to default. I will try and delete it to let it regenerate, just in case.
What strikes me as very odd, is that details in my custom mode do not print either, yet other modes do print just fine. Maybe I’m missing the obvious…

Thanks
-Willem

@stevebaer Hi Steve, sorry for bumping this but I’m about to start a project where it would be nice to have this fixed, and it seems I’m not the only one.

I’ve also noticed that something’s changed. I used to be able to picture frame images right on to my layout page and print out in Vector and at some point in the last few months, this stopped. I’ve reported it but didn’t get much of a response.

I have found a workaround, which is to place the pictureframed image in to modelspace and open a detail on my layout page that looks right at it. I then set the display mode in that detail to rendered, and I can print the overall layout page in vector mode – successfully, but I know that up until a few months ago, I used to be able to place the pictureframed image right on the layout page.

Wonder what changed.

Thank you, Willem for speaking up. I spend all day producing construction documents and this is an important element: )

Having a similar problem and could not find a solution yet…

Guys when i try to print in vector mode my picture frames does not come up… Double checked everything but still no way…

Vector print mode should include raster images like picture frames, but in none of the spaces, (model space or layout) it just does not work at all…

Why are you bringing a 2D image into 3D if you are going right back out to a 2D PDF?

This seems like a job for Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign.
