Minor V7 issues

1- It is difficult to see which layout tab is active. In V6 it’s highlighted in a different color

V6: image

V7: image

2- The Copy command won’t copy between layouts like it does in V6. I can Copy linework or text from model space to layout space, but Copying between layouts just duplicates the linework or text in the original layout.

Hi Nate - here it is not very-very different but it is different, in V7, for the active tab:

same as V6, here.

I see the difference in Copy behavior - thanks for pointing that out.
RH-65699 Copy: fails between layouts

Hmm… all 6 of our designers in the office have the same issue as I do. Your tabs don’t look the same as ours, and I think we are all running the same version of Windows in our office.

Is there a setting that can change it? Is it a Windows issue?

It’s definitely an annoying issue for all of us.

Do you want system info from our other computers?

Thanks!

Hi @nate,

Does CopyToClipboard and then Paste work for you?

– Dale

yep, that works fine between layouts, just the Copy command acts wierd

There is defiantly a difference in how rhino 7 assigns tab colors compared to 6.

I’m not sure how you got your viewport tabs to the side of your screen, mine are locked to the bottom, so i wasn’t able to compare behavior there. by default the view port tabs open at the bottom. (command: viewporttabs)

In rhino 6 under Options -Appearance - Colors Window color 2 assigned to the active tab, and Window Color 3 is assigned to the inactive tabs

In rhino 7 window color 2 is assigned to all tabs, both active and inactive.

Yes! Thank you :+1:

@pascal - this is what I was talking about… can we get this changed back to the V6 behavior?

Hi Nate - the bug report (see my link a few posts up) is shown as open, so it is on the develper’s radar, is the best I can say.

Would there be any news on this since? I’m also experiencing @nate’s problem. Compare Rh6 vs Rh7:

This basically makes it impossible to see what viewport is active, and breaks your intuitive CTRL+TAB / CTRL+SHIFT+TAB viewport switching.

Hi Duncan -
Thanks. I see there was some confusion as to which of the 2 completely different issues that were raised in the OP that was spoken of in later posts.

At any rate, it looks like this particular issue was fixed in Rhino 8 at some point but then got broken again.

You can search the advanced settings for “InactiveTabBackground” and make sure to slide the transparency slider for the color completely to the right. At the moment, this color is 100% transparent and thus just showing the same color as the other tabs. You can also pick a completely new color but still make sure to not leave it at 100% transparent.

This issue is on the Rhino 8 list as RH-68842.

Thanks so much Wim, that’s a lifesaver for me and instant improvement.

Can I ask what the intention was with changing this behaviour from RH6?

One more thing to feed back perhaps: A colour with transparency didn’t seem to look right to me here, so I just chose a fully opaque slightly darker grey. This means that some of the tabs blend together, as their edge colour is missing. I tried to sketch two in black for “Display” and “Select” to illustrate:

Again compare with RH6 where this subtlety hadn’t been lost:

We are confused because there is no documentation of the advanced options. :confounded:
