I am a chemistry professor and would like to simulate mercury in a test tube. In “render” mode the mercury is clearly visible but in raytrace mode it is completely obscured. This also means that when the image is rendered in R7, I cannot see the metal surface under the glass. See attached for screen shots. What is the fix for this?
That indeed looks incorrect. Thank you for reporting.
Logged as RH-63279 Metal behind glass renders incorrect
I have not been able to reproduce this week.
When creating this type of scenarios: metals behind glass-like materials, make sure you bump the diffuse and glossy bounces in the Advanced Rendering Settings section of either the Rendering panel or the Render settings of the document (they drive both the same data).
I’ve marked the related bug as obsolete.
