MeshSplit with Holes?

I have a giant mesh with purposeful holes so Meshrepair states “it is not a good mesh”. From reading other discussions, this might be the reason MeshSplit will not work.

Is there a way around this, another option?

Hi Tamarah - what to do depends on what the errors are in the report, but the MeshRepair tool may help guide you.

Now it is a “good mesh”. But, MeshSplit still does not work.

I tried converting it to a polysurface (MeshtoNurb) and using Split. Or even trim. Nothing is working…any ideas?

Is the object very far from the origin? I guess we need to see the file - please post to tech@mcneel.com, to my attention (Pascal) and I’ll see if I can make it work.

I wish I could send the file, but I have a non-disclosure. How does the origin effect the meshsplit command?

Hi Tamarah - tech@mcneel.com is confidential, not public. Objects very far from the origin can suffer from lack of precision in the coordinates. MeshSplit is not terribly reliable at the best of times but with iffy meshes it can be worse. It would at least be clearer if I could have the mesh to look at…

OKay. I have sent the file with Attn: Pascal. Thank you!
