I am told meshes are far quicker to work with if insert is used.
place the mesh into a rhino file, save it then create a new rhino file and use insert to insert that .3dm file.
i have two photogrammetry meshes of a tyre, one has a ruler in it, both are sized and fit together.
I need to be able to select one or the other when making sections.
I place eaach one on a named layer.
Create new rhino file, run the Insert command and browse to the .3dm file with the two meshes.
It comes in.
With its two layers they were on.
Right click on the named layer, select object AND NOTHING HAPPENS.
Turn the layer off and mesh vanishes, so its on that layer,
Likewise the second layer.
Turn layers back on, select the one mesh and both go yellow, and go to the hammer, show object layer, and its on default !
I cannot work with this.
I need each mesh selectable and not on default, yet they are not on default, yet they are…
Aaaagh doing my head IN.
Just how does one insert two meshes and have them behave, I cant work with them.
I need to group them together so that moving one moves the other. I run the group command and I am unable to select them.
Hi,
186Mb the file, so cannot post here.
To make a new mesh and import into rhino then insert that file into another new rhino, means creating a small mesh in photogrammetry which means taking photos of something small, and all that could end with a biggish file anyway.
I was told to use insert and the block would solve the slow redraw and saves.
I just go with defaults. which is Block.
Hi Mark, ok noted.
I have just tried the Group option, and it can be ungrouped after three ungroup commands.
It resides on the expected layers and hammer tool ‘select object layer’ is not default.
and I can select two and group them again.
23 secs to save.
The Block option refuses to ungroup. thus is unworkable as I need each mesh accessible.
also 23 secs to save.
I might draw a line then choose project, select the mesh and nothing goes yellow, most unsettling. Blocks are a nightmare.
23 secs group or block option.
Just what is the method to speed things up, meshes are a nightmare. I am convinced Rhino is not suited to them.
I was so full of hope with the advice of using Insert and as a block, so Rhino doesnt have to redraw each and every triangle etc. Selecting the mesh isnt the same as if its imported. if it doesnt select, game over.
