Menues with icons

When teaching Rhino, I always recommend to use also the menu, not only the buttons.
There are several reasons for that.

It would be good to have the button’s pictures in the menu as well.
This way it should be a lot easier to learn the buttons.
As it is now, one has to wait for the tooltip to know what a button does.
When we have seen the picture in the menues it should be easier to learn.

There was once a menue item ‘Open tutorial models’, which is away from V5 on.
It would be very handy to have it back.
New users don’t find the files easily with Windows Explorer.
Perhaps not exactly there, but on the info dialog?

Hi Charles- this is possible, in fact, but the icons need to be so small (16 px) when we tried, as to be almost useless and only added visual clutter.

And why not larger icons?
24x24 works well…

@DavidRutten, I think you had strong feelings about this- do you recall?

I was about to point to Grasshopper where you double-click in the canvas and start writing a command name - you get a list with names as you write and the names are accompanied by their icons. I would have thought that David was a proponent. :-]

Yeah, I could well be wrong - sieve-brain and all that - but I was working on this at one point and was stopped by unshakable opposition- I thought it was from David, possibly among others, but I might have been to shaken to tell.

Tried it.
As the icons are handled now, it doesn’t look good, right:

Seems the existing bitmap is scaled down to 16x16, which can’t work well.
But when you export the image as 16x16 from Xara, option ‘keep screen AA’, then it looks pretty good:

(You have to set 15x15 in Xara.)

Same for more complicated icons:

As it is now:

How it could look like with native 16x16 icons:

This all only if the icons must be 16x16.
With 24x24 there is no problem at all.

So, why not?

If the opposition is over, will you try again?
