if i have a material of type Custom and got a texture assigned in the color slot, then right click on the texture name and choose “Replace” from the context menu, it does not change the texture properly. Only the name of the assigned texture is changed, but the preview does not update in the material browser and on the object(s) the material is assigned to. (8.14.24325.13001, 2024-11-20)
Another (minor) issue, but slighly annoying, why does it collapse the “Textures” section after choosing a different texture ?
Thanks, I’ve filed this as https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-84983 for the developers. In my testing here, the texture map is not actually replaced so I think maybe the preview is still correct and the Replace option is broken.
Regarding the collapsed settings, this appears to be a sticky preference. Expand the collapsed sections for the Texture’s settings and then Replace again, the expanded sections should still be expanded. The reverse is true here as well, if I collapse them all and replace again, they are still collapsed as you show.
Hi Brian, i guess both. The small preview icon does not change once i have chosen a new texture. There is also no change on the object the material is assigned to.
Unfortunately this is not the case over here. I see what is shown in above gif, the “Custom Settings” and “Textures” setting are both expanded. Once i have chosen a new texture using the Replace entry in the right mouse menu, it collapses all sections. I’ve tried this now multiple times and also expanded the “Advanced Settings” section, it gets collapsed as well once a file is chosen.
Regarding the collapse of the menu sections after Replace. Your Gif doesn’t show you expanding the collapsed sections for the texture map settings which you will automatically be shown after Replace. If you expand these and then Replace again, do you still see them collapsed? Myself and the developer cannot repeat that issue.
you’re right, it does not collapse the section but it jumps down one level after choosing Replace from the context menu. It would be better if it does not do this and keeps displaying the page with the Textures section from where i’ve started the Replace or ?
That’s correct, the settings section shown is for the texture map after Replace and this is by design. I can see in your latest gif that the settings sections stay expanded after Replace so I believe that issue is resolved since the design is to recall the last state. This appears to be working for you.
With that said, I understand your new thought about not having the texture map settings shown after a Replace and for the UI to stay on the top level settings for the material. I don’t know if the developers will agree on changing this and it may not be what some users want. I’ll bring up the topic and see.
Lastly, the initial bug of RH-84983 is fixed now in what will be the next service release candidate of 8.15 scheduled for release in about a week.
