Are there some solutions to deal with that manifold geometry is splited by the manifold edge?
please post an image, or a file. it is not clear to me what you need. what can not work is splitting in the middle of the surface like here, the split will fail.
in order for it to split properly it has to extend at least from edge to edge or further like so
