Could we add an option for two clipping planes, meeting at a common edge, at a user defined angle, and otherwise both infinite, to the wishlist? Then we could do this sort of cutaway without incurring the huge amount of faff it takes to do it at present…
This is pretty close to the same amount of effort for supporting curved planes. It is something we definitely want to get to in the future, but we are still a ways off from being able to support this.
I know I’m not the smartest person in the room, here, but just as an exercise of throwing thoughts against the wall…
v8 has the ability to go back into completed Booleans now, I think? And if not, wouldn’t just having History engaged from the initial Polyline make it possible to:
Create Section Polyline and then Slab to create solid Cutter
** (outside geo for single-sided cut, or inside for a box-out sort of cut)
Apply a Hatch Material on the Cutter
Subtract Cutter from Geo
Apply Cutter’s Material to affected Geo’s faces (as seen in @jeremy5’s image above)
Hide the Cutter
If changes need to be made, go back into Boolean and make changes, or change Section Polyline (history on)
