Mac Rhino licensing question

Thanks!

Already bought one (1) license. Yay!

So @dale,

could you possibly inform us about a not so precise – but approximate – release date of the Mac Zoo Server?

Would be nice to know since we´d like to add a second license and would like to use it from multiple workstations (locally at our office).

Hi Ulrich,

@dan would be more capable of giving you an approximate release time frame.

Is running Windows Zoo a possibility? You can run Windows on VMWare on a Mac…

Hi Ulrich,

A Zoo Server for OS X has fallen in development priority due to general lack of demand (or we are not hearing enough from users). From our perspective, most people are running the Zoo Server on Windows and serving license to Rhino for Mac. I can completely understand why some Mac-only shops would want this and we are making slow progress. At the moment, this is a target for the 5.3 update, for which there is no timeline.

Another licensing question:

Would it be possible to run Rhino for Mac on a “direct” (a.k.a. local) license – and once in a while, start Parallels on my Computer with Zoo for Windows installed, and then (JUST then) use the Zoo license over the network on another Mac? :slightly_smiling:

OK - not OK. Since using XP, the Zoo on Parallels is not a solution for now, until the next OS.
either way - an answer to the question above would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Is the “other Mac” under your control?

If it is, you should close the session of Rhino for Mac on the “first Mac” to comply with the EULA.

Am I misunderstanding the question?

Yes, both are under my control and on the same local network.

So if i combine my idea with your definition (We have 1 license in our office):

  1. I start Rhino_OSX on my personal (first) Mac
  2. I quit Rhino_OSX on my personal (first) Mac
  3. I start Rhino Zoo on Parallels on my personal (first) Mac (OS later than Win_XP :frowning:)
  4. Now exactly 1 (one) of my colleagues can start Rhino_OSX on a (second) Mac without a license installed locally, it takes the Zoo network license
  5. The colleague on the other (second) Mac quits Rhino_OSX
  6. a. I MUST end / b: I DO NOT HAVE TO end the Zoo on Parallels on my personal (first) Mac (Which is correct?)
  7. I can start Rhino_OSX on my personal (first) Mac again

Would it be THAT way?

Thanks!

I must admit, I’m still having trouble parsing the situation. I apologize. However, there is 1 thing I can say, given what you have said:

We have 1 license in our office

…so you can use this 1 license on 1 machine at a time.
