I use R7 on my desktop and laptop (not simultaneously). Each time I launch Rhino, I get a pop-up saying you’re logged in on X device, would you like to sign in here? I need to click this for Rhino to open. It’s annoying because I use MatrixGold on top of Rhino and that causes the whole ordeal to take minutes to get things running. Is there a way I can have it bypass or auto-accept the pop-up?
P.S. There are hours in between the desktop/laptop use, so the license shouldn’t be detected as “active” on a certain machine.
Hi Panda, On the machine that has Rhino and its plugins closed please go to the Task Manager and verify. Ideally you could test this without third party plugins installed first (go to File>Properties>Plugins to disable plugins)
The machine is completely turned off. Hours later, I would turn on my other machine, launch Rhino and get the pop-up. It’s not a plugin issue. I only mentioned MatrixGold because that plugin is slow to start without having the pop-up cause additional delay. MG has its own launcher icon and interface. However, if I launch R7 through its icon, it launches fast (minus the pop-up inconvenience). My issue is with the pop-up itself, nothing is broken with Rhino or the plugins. I’m sorry for not explaining the issue well, I hope I covered it this time.
Maybe I’m mistaken, but I think this is normal…. The first machine effectively has a checked out license which is valid for about 3 weeks, even if Rhino is inactive. You may have closed the lid on a laptop with an unsaved file for example. When you want to start Rhino on a new machine, it asks if you want to transfer the license. If you say yes, the previous machine no longer has the license. If you reopen the first machine while the second is using the license, I think you get one chance to save your work before Rhino closes because it no longer has a license.
This wasn’t the case though. I close Rhino completely, and I fully shut down the machines - no sleep/hibernation. Anyway, uninstalling R6 stopped the pop-up so thanks again @Japhy
Edit: Scratch that. I got the message again. Only R7 is installed on the machines now and it’s still happening. Sigh. Whatever.
Just re-read your post, and it made more sense, but is it possible to auto-accept the license transfer?
The active licensed machine would be turned off when the second is on, so I’m not worried about losing work anyway. I know Rhino has an extended offline period for licenses and I love that I can work on the road without any limitations but perhaps adding an active license checker in addition to the current set up would cover all use-cases. Thoughts?
I’m not the one who designed the system. I think this is simply automatic currently, whether it can be made to check if a license is really in use or if the license can be automatically returned when Rhino is closed is above my pay grade.
