Loading worksession files is slow

Hello,

I notice that, compared to other operations, loading and updating worksession files is slow.
I have a scene with 500 block instances, 22 blocks, meshes, 44mb, it takes around one minute to update and the blocks load in batches.

Is it possible to improve the loading of worksession files, because it doesn’t seem normal to take so much time.

Also, something related to materials makes it crash when attaching.
The above scene is made out of linked blocks.
In it i changed the materials type from physical to custom.
Then I tried to attach it inside another scene and I see it crash.

Hi Bogdan,

Can you zip and upload to mcneel here? https://www.rhino3d.com/upload

Please put a link to this thread or a detailed description of the issue in the upload comments. Thanks!

Hi @Japhy ,

I’m glad to see you’re looking into this.
I sent an email to tech, because the upload button is not working.

Tell me if you received the file in order,
Kind regards.

missing all the linked blocks..

ok, that’s explainable, I’m sending you a new file.

ok, I sent the file with the blocks.
The strange thing was that initially it took a few minutes to update, which was already quite a lot. But when I changed the materials, the time increased to maybe 25-35 minutes…

Which materials and objects where were changed?

Materials inside each block are set to physical.

Once you link them, the materials become part of the scene.

So i selected all of them, for all the blocks, and i changed the type to custom. - this operation also took a few minutes.

Then I switched to zero the reflection and the gloss. - this operation also took a few minutes.

Then I hit update in the worksession manager.

Files are like:

  1. All the blocks (materials - physical)
  2. garden with all the blocks linked (changed mat type to custom)
  3. scene with the architecture and the garden attached. (update the worksession garden file)

I ran a few tests, reloads, change materials and only seeing reload times of 3-4 seconds.

Are any of your resources networked or is everything local?

@Japhy , I sent you an new archive with the main file and screen recording.

All tree blocks loaded in the garden, and the garden attached to architecture - to update for me this takes 2 minutes.

missing blocks again

yes but ignore those. these are some linked blocks in the main (architecture) file.

I expect this slow down is on a network drive. Are any files stored on a network drive?

Linked blocks or the textures on the materials need to be found thru a search switch can be quite slow.

The screenshots do not show the full path, but are they on a network drive?

Noh, no network drive, everything is in C:/…
