Layout switching - very slow

Switching between layouts is very very slow.
Please speed up this operation.

Even better: Enable using the up and down arrows to cycle through layouts in the layout panel in real time.
Rhino is becoming a slow dinosaur :frowning:

Hi @mortenengel,

Do you have a 3dm file, that you can share, that is โ€œslowโ€ when switching pages? If so, feel free to dm me the file.

Also, please share your Rhino SystemInfo report.

Thanks,

Do you have a private mail I can share a file to?

Layout switching is slow in even simple files.

Same here: Switching between layouts is very slow and disrupts the workflow!

Even if I create an empty file and create two empty layouts, switching between these layouts takes about 2 seconds, which doesnโ€™t feel as natural as switching between the viewports.

Here is also my Systeminfo:

Ideally switching between layouts should be instantaneous with just one click in the palate.
Even better to use the keyboard arrows up and down to browse through layouts.

The layout panel needs a major overhaul.
Would be great to have a field for date, revision date, sheet size, etc. that could populate the title block.

Hi @mortenengel,
Layer and Layouts are similar, and both would need to behave the same way.
Currently with both, you have a list of items, and only one of the items is current.

We have been told by customers that:

  • They want to Click to highlight, focus and edit.
  • And to Double Click to make an item current (layer or layout).
It would be good to hear if other users agree or disagree.

Would be great to have a field for date, revision date, sheet size, etc. that could populate the title block. See this tutorial here on Text Fields and how to use them.

You can do this now with Text Field for DocumentUserText (Options-> DocumentUserText), LayoutUserText (Properties panel-> Layout User text page) and other built in Fields like Date and PageHeight & PageWidth
I have many custom fields in the Document User text that the Title block text can link to.

This will give you your page size.

In this live workshop, we make a shaker table. The title block uses text fields extensively. It should give you a good idea how you can work up something similar up

work.
Hint: use the ImportLayout command to import the layout with the Title block/details into an imperial unit file.
