Large model displays, Shards, Like 8bit Video Game Explosion

Large model opens and then radically shards!.

I can open this model with version 7, but its painfully slow. The size is 330 MB. I have been able to open with Metal: work in progress, and it is a dream. However this last revision I am getting this phenomena where 5 seconds after it opens, it shards. I am not sure if that is the right description. Ok looks like whole screen 8bit video game explosions.

That’s often because the geometry is far from the origin (0,0,0)

any chance you can share your systeminfo (type the command in rhino and share the report)

and possibly the file?

you can zip the file and use our uploader Rhino - Upload to Support

a few pics or screen shots would be helpful too-

Massive Sharding. This was fixed, and now with Version 8 WIP (8.0.22340.12306, 2022-12-06) its back.

Model comes to a screeching halt with high CPU and spinning beach ball.

Model is 335 GB in size.

335 GB?!

I’m guessing you don’t have nearly enough RAM to support a model of that size. What could possibly be that big? I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and never heard of a single model that large.

did you mean 335 MB?

In rhino>preferences>advanced search for tessellation

you will find rhino options.opengl.use tessellationshaders check the false checkbox.

any better?

can you send your systeminfo?

My apologies, it is 335mb not gb. The last update fixed the sharding.

ok, good! thanks for letting us know.
