Lagging when selection popup appears

I’ve been having this issue for awhile and haven’t found much online, so it’s probably isolated to just me, but I thought I would ask just in case.

I’ve reset Rhino, removed the user pref folder, reinstalled, run in safe mode, and both V8 and the beta do the same behavior. Anytime I am in a project and need to select an object that requires the selection popup, Rhino hangs up for like 10 seconds.

Anyone else having this behavior?

Thanks!

Do you have the same lags when turning smarttrack off? In heavy scenes I often encounter massive slowdowns when having all the smarttrack, snapping, helpers, etc. turned on. So best practice would be to only turn on what you need in the moment.

But maybe this is a completely different topic.

Best regards,

You know, I am not sure, I have always left it on… but will try that.

I tested it and it still does it. It’s literally only when I have surfaces with curves and other things and the selection popup happens.

Sad that it did not help - but if you can - share your model and your systeminfo, without it will be hard to find the culprit. And this way someone from McNeel might be able to help.

Thanks, I will do that as soon as I’m back at my desk!

@Sebastian_Wimmer I just saved the simplest file, as I am able to easily recreate the issue. It’s just a cube with all the edges duplicated. Upon selecting an edge, the popup for the selection shows up and then there is a delay with the beach ball.

I have no other issues in Rhino other than this, but it’s sure maddening!

example.3dm (2.9 MB)

system info.txt (4.9 KB)

I am unable to repeat the problem here. I have loaded example.3dm onto Rhino 8 and Rhino BETA - the selection popup is immediately useful whenever I click onto one of the box edges.

Do you have any Python scripts running? From what I can see of your systeminfo.txt, you don’t have any esoteric plug-ins loaded.

Andy,

Thanks for checking. I don’t have anything third party installed with Rhino, as I’ve always just used it as a modeler and a factory install. It’s got to be something third party running on my Mac. I’m tempted to do a fresh install of the OS and start there.

Would you be able to zoom with me so I could see what is happening on your machine and maybe try a few things?

You can email me on andy@mcneel.com
