Iterative algorithm or ML for surface matching?

Ok, first a disclaimer: AI is destructive for the environment, it’s only enabled by massive theft on a previously unprecedented scale and the those behind the companies are shitty techbros and I’m very happy that people are developing methods to fight back.

Having said all that:

Why hasn’t anyone applied ML for surface matching yet?

I haven’t even seen any matching tool which can do a few thousand iterations (like the Make Planar Faces tool in Blender, for example), but maybe they already do that behind the scenes I don’t know.

What I do know is that the initial result from matching is often horribly distorted and ugly, and after CV massaging (always for far too long time), you can get a clean and good looking result that the current algorithms failed to find.

Interesting topic.
I recently wondered which plug-ins already use ML or AI.
Think I read about shapemap and surfacerelief, apart from the plug-ins that use the Accord dependencies.
