Issues with Curve Piping and Thickening

I’m working with designs for steel wire displays and found a few issues with the Curve Piping and Thickening properties.

Curve Pipes will not show on a Rendered viewport, only shaded and Raytraced
viewports:

There is no way I can work with the Raytraced viewport all the time, and I like to use the rendered viewport for a quick color review, but all the wires are missing.

Also the Curve Piping and Thickening properties are being removed from files when using SaveSmall. I get not keeping the mesh, and that’s what’s SaveSmall is for, meshes begone!
But when working with the design of a whole store, with dozens of shelves, isles, gondolas, each with several types of wires, radius and block objects for each, and I need a manageable file size, that info cannot be just thrown away.

What am I doing wrong?

Solved part of my own question by turning on the Curve display for the Rendered mode

But the SaveSmall issue persists!

curve piping IS the render mesh…

when you dump the render mesh with save small, you dump the curve piping data as well.

you can of course pipe the curves for real using the pipe command and round caps.

Are you saying that the curve pipes, once you open that file up, are gone / curve piping is turned off for the curves?
If I open up the model you sent, it shades correctly here.

I was doing something wrong for sure. I made a new file, used SaveSmall again, everything works fine. Sorry to bother. Thanks!
