Upon updating of Rhino all icons (.lnk) are deleted and a new one is created on the same place with the same name. (Desktop, Taskbar, StartMenu).
This deletes also the customized launching arguments like /nosplash /runscript= “_Grasshopper”, etc.

Yah, I have complained about this to @brian before. There was a YT for it ( RH-38780 ). I have added a link to this topic to the YT item.
FWIW, I guess the standard operating procedure has been to never edit defaults but to make your own copies (that also applies to toolbars that will get overwritten on reinstalls).
A new shortcut to the exe with custom arguments does not get deleted and replaced.
Not exactly. If you create a shortcut of the shortcut, as it is when dragging a shortcut from Start-AllPrograms to List of MostUsed, that one in MostUsedApps is not only overwritten it vanishes (this is in Win7).
Same happens with the pinned one on Win10 Taskbar.
The above mentioned are copies of the shortcuts they should not get deleted.
The defaults should be: scan for difference with the defaults if such exists create new one (rename the new one if there’s a conflict)
I did not try to copy the icon with different name because I rarely use desktop icons. I use the pins on taskbar or Start Menu. They both get deleted.
