Is there a way to save objects created in Rhino as a library?

Is it possible to save drawings from different projects in a library to be used in other drawings other than the one in which it was created?

Hi Joe -

In this context, what is a “drawing”?

You can insert existing files into an active document.

Hi Wim,
Yeah, not so clear. What I want is to be able to save an element(object)that I made in one of my drawings and save it to a kind of library of objects that I could use in other drawing projects without opening the entire original drawing to do a copy/paste. I suppose I could make a dedicated file to save those objects?
Thanks
Joe

You could use the File Explorer panel as a library store, make a custom folder for your files with objects and set it as default in settings. Then you can just drag a file from there into the main Rhino window and choose Import or Insert.

Thanks
Thanks, I will try it.

Hi,
I found File Explorer but don’t see how to add a folder for my objects.
Thanks

Hi Joe -

You can add folders from the File Explorer page in the Rhino Options.

You can get to that same page from the “Hamburger Menu” in the File Explorer panel:

-wim

Me again,
I must be doing something wrong. I created a file but can’t see how to put an object in it.
Sorry

It’s a Rhino file like any other. Create the object in Rhino, save the file in the folder you designated as your repository in the Rhino File Explorer. That’s it.

Thank you.

Hi Joe,

I don’t know how familiar you are with Rhino, so forgive me if this is a waste of time, but I wonder whether

means it is a library object that you want to save.

If so, are you familiar with Blocks in Rhino? They are elements of models that can be stored in files and re-used in other models (and they can also be used multiple times in one model).
