Hi, I’m running Win 7 64 on an older box with a GeForce 9500 GT GPU. It’s bogging down on files over 300MB in size. I think that it’s time to either replace the puter altogether or upgrade the GPU. Has anyone tried using a Radeon Nitro+ RX580 8GB GPU with Rhino 6?
Thanks for your response JesterKing. Can you tell me what kind of machine you’re running, how much RAM and what speed the RAM is. I’m trying to figure out whether I’m going to build a new box or dump some coin into the the current one. I’ve found a way to upgrade this one to 3.4Ghz inexpensively.
Well the question isn’t whether it’ll work, it quite likely will, it’s will it work better than a similarly priced Nvidia card. It seems to be roughly comparable to a 1060, maybe a bit better or worse on some things. So make of that what you will.
I am on an i7-7700 @ 3,6GHz. I am working with 16GB RAM, I don’t recall its speed.
But get the fastest and as much as you can within your budget. If you are still on HDDs make the switch to SSD drives - that gives a good boost in overall performance also.
