Each time I open Rhino, the interface is left floating on the desktop instead of re-instating the previous size and placement on the Windows desktop.
Then there is the floating bundle of panels with layers, properties, etc… that I need to close each time because I never wanted it there, never had it there… don’t want it !
PROBLEM 1: Windows not saving Rhino 8’s window size & location
Possible Solution: Start > Display Settings > Multiple Displays > Remember window locations based on monitor connection (checked)
PROBLEM 2: Rhino not remembering container/panels visibility & locations
Possible Solution: Setup your Rhino 8 workspace as you’d like (containers, panels, toolbars, etc.). Then, in Rhino, use the SaveWindowLayout command. You can manage your window layouts with Rhino’s WindowLayout command.
It was checked on my system, and no, it doesn’t work
Does not work. The issue is not that my panel placement gets jumbled.
Rather, it’s that a stupid floating panel with a bunch off tabs is added for no reason, and floats in the middle of the screen.
I see, and you are correct, they should be working. Please call or email our McNeel Europe’s Tech Support, so someone can help you get the problem sorted. Rhino - Contact Us
Well, I wouldn’t expect much from this. Windows 11 has absolutely the worst management of multiple monitors I have ever seen. Doesn’t matter if that checkbox is checked or not, do not expect any of your open windows/apps to stay put. This is not a Rhino problem, this is a Windows problem.
After sleeping and waking up I routinely find open windows that have been resized (too big or too small) and that have switched monitors. I have a feeling this might also have to do with display scaling. I sometimes end up with Photoshop covering a monitor and a half in both width and height - that is to say the bottom of the program window is way off the screen on the bottom. I also get some directories that might be open to end up at 100% display scaling when normally they should be at 150%. Etcetera, etcetera. If Rhino is using the same Windows functions to manage its placement, it’s never going to be right.
