Installing rhino3d 5.0 from DVD to 2nd computer

I’m a computer muppet trying to install rhino3d for my girlfriend to a second computer. Each time I try it fails with error 1603. I tried following the instructions related to installation error 1603 on the wikimcneel site but it still fails. I’ll copy the error block note at the end of this mail. We have used the DVD for our own notebook but want to install it also on the home PC as it’s much faster. Actually, this other PC has rhino3d 5.0 already but it’s in Italian so we wanted to change it to French. Maybe we can just change the languge??

You don’t have the complete error log file. I suspect if you find the MSI error “Value 3”, you’ll find that the Rhino on the machine is newer than the DVD so it won’t install.
To add French, download the current service release from the Rhino Download page. Enter the same email address and the key code. Then choose the French language version.
Run the file after you have downloaded it.

Restart Rhino and in Options - Appearance, you’ll find the new language on the list.

Your old DVD is of not much use now since the installed Rhino is a newer service release.

Thanks John!
When you say “enter the same email address and the key code” I suppose that you mean the same as the newer Italian version which is already installed. This could be difficult as the PC has been lent to us by someone else. I don’t suppose we can use our license key code to add French to the existing installed Rhino???

When Rhino is registered and validated, the email address is associated with the key code. When you manually download a service release, you need both the registered email address and Rhino key code.

It may be the the person that loaned you their system will have to download and install the service release to add the second language support.

Thanks again then! I’ll try with my mail/license info and, if it doesn’t work, I’ll try to find the original installer’s détails.
If I can’t get the info I guess an option would be to uninstall the original programme backing up existing work to a USB, and then re-installing using our own license.
Is my thinking right?

If you have the email address and key code for your Rhino, then yes, that will work to get the French service release downloaded. There is no license checking when a service release is installed.
