Industry-Specific Sub Forums or Tags

It would be nice if the Rhino forum had Categories / tabs that are profession-specific where Rhino users that work in a particular profession can post their ideas. For example, architects, interior designers, jewelers, set designers, sculptors etc. I myself am a set designer and if I knew there was such a category I would always be looking at it to see what my colleagues are dealing with/ suggesting and sharing.

I think this would also help prospective users that are trying to decide whether to buy the product see how Rhino it is being used in their particular profession.

The closest thing I can think about it is the Rhino gallery sub-forum, which includes various categories.

I think there is a lot of value in cross-disciplinary sharing/troubleshooting in relation to this great & versatile tool called Rhino, so I wouldn’t want to create industry specific ‘silos’, but yes perhaps some topics might be better suited to industry specific sub forums and these sub forums might help knit communities together in different professions/industries.

Speaking for myself, I’d be happy to contribute to and potentially help coordinate a Rhino in Landscape Architecture sub forum.

Maybe a subtle way of doing this would be to be able to tag your post for a specific industry and then people in that industry could filter for posts that are tagged that way.
It wouldn’t be an alternative category (like Grasshopper, or Serengeti) but a tag. Once a week or once a month you could go in and filter for what’s posted that relates to your industry. This might be particularly helpful now that so many people are posting on the forum that it’s easy to miss a post if you’re not constantly looking.

Yes what you describe works already for landscape with the “landscape design” category and landscape tag being available. I haven’t checked other industry specific categories & tags

@Cosmas I’m definitely down with Tagging #SetDesign

Here’s a question: What if the post doesn’t specifically have to do with set design? I suppose we could always just use the tag anyway so we can keep up to date with each others’ issues and tips.

Add’l/Alternate Idea: #ProfileTags we can give ourselves that automatically create a filter for all posts by (eg.) #SetDesigners, or creates a filtered list of people with that tag.

A profile could be multi-tagged if, say, I’m a #SetDesigner who’s also into #Woodworking.

And searches could be filtered by booleans: #ProfileTag AND #ContentTag so if Cosmas wants to keep up with my posts about sharing iRhino files with an AD in the field, he can see those posts, but he doesn’t also have to see my endless thread about a 99.9% efficient cut list for the floating shelves in my kids rm. :grinning:

Love these ideas @Alan. Let’s keep it going!
