Since the update to R 8.4.2 the right click on the mouse does not show the panel to turn off solid control points. I don’t see how to turn them off.
I believe you have to hold RMB for a bit longer before you release it. You should first see a menu icon appear while you’re holding, then you can release to get the menu. But you can always run the command _PointsOff if you still can’t find the menu.
