So I upgraded from 7 to 8 today, and I assumed there would be some kind of settings import from 7 to 8, but that didn’t happen, so I have none of my display modes. How can I get them from 7 to 8? Bear in mind, that because of the upgrade, I no longer have access to 7, except through the file system.
Please run Reset in the command line of Rhino 8 to restore factory setting and try again.
Refer to the steps below to export settins from Rhino 7,
Then import them into Rhino 8, making sure to only check the Advanced Display option during import.
If you have a Rhino 7 and a Rhino 8 upgrad license, you can install both Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 on the same device, as they are not mutually exclusive.
Uh, no. When you upgrade to 8, the 7 license is consumed. I CANNOT open 7 as I no longer have a license for it. There is only the Rhino 8 license in my license page. I really don’t understand why this wasn’t imported when I upgraded, and now I need to find a different way.
Hi Keith,
Add your license back for Rhino 7, it has to be on the same machine as your Rhino 8 since its standalone.
Thanks for the tip, I was completely unaware I could run BOTH versions at the same time, mostly because the upgrade process stripped all my licensing from my installed copy of 7, and my licensing page no longer shows a license for 7, so you can understand my confusion.
So this was the most convoluted process I have had to do during an upgrade of ANYTHING. If I can run both 7 and 8, why the hell did it remove my license for 7 during the upgrade process?!? More importantly, why was NONE of this stuff IMPORTED DURING THE UPGRADE?!? This is standard operating procedure for MOST APPLICATIONS. I certainly did not expect to have to go through this with professional software like Rhino. I love this application, but come on, not importing my settings and then seemingly LOCKING ME OUT after the process is done so I can’t even get TO my settings is comically bad.
