Importing blocks from Rhino To Blender

Hey everyone!

I have a project that I need to export from Rhino and import into Blender for texturing and animation. However, block instances were required due to the facade being complex with vast amounts of repetition. Is there a way to carry over the block data when exporting to Blender? I’ve had a look around and can’t find anythign definitive!

Thank you!

Have you tried our Blender add-on import_3dm? https://www.rhino3d.com/download/rhino/8/import_3dm/

Hey Nathan, I appreicate the quick reply!

No I wasn’t aware this exists, I’ll give it a try! Just to confirm does this allow your block data to be carried over into Blender?

What block data are you looking for to carry over into Blender?

I’m trying to import this detail specifically, each part is isn’t own black which is copied until the full facade is made, I want to try and import all of it

I didn’t fully get your description, but the current release of the add-on import_3dm can import blocks without a problem:

blockinstances_import3dm_demo.3dm (3.2 MB)

Apologies for the poor description, but this is exactly what I was looking for! I’ll check the blender add-on you provided later on!

Thank you so much for your help!

Hey Nathan,

I’ve installed your add on, how exactly does it work? is there any file preperation I need to do from Rhino to Blender?

Thanks

You need to save your file you want to import with a viewport in shaded or rendered mode.

If your model has unit settings other than meters you may want to set the unit scale in Blender to account for that. A millimeter model needs a unit scale of 0.001 for instance.

Other than that no considerations I can think of. Just try.
