Icon sub-palettes gone?

I have just upgraded to Wenatchee 5A527, and I noticed that the Icon sub-palettes have been replaced with fold-out menu’s. I am more graphics oriented than text, and I know that the icons are still there (but very small), but would prefer to have the sub-palettes instead. Is there a way?

Rhino for Mac has never had a menu system that is only icons, but has always used the standard OS X menu system for the submenus attached to tool buttons.

I re-installed the previous version and I think I know what’s happening. In the Preferences, the click-box to change your drop down menu or floating palettes has disappeared. Somehow my preference for floating palettes has changed to drop down menu’s, but now I am not able to reset it due to the missing click-box.

I would like to know if this is a bug, or is my computer at fault?

We intentionally removed the capability to customize what mouse behavior would invoke each of the possible actions for a tool button. All the original actions are still there - they now have fixed mouse button actions assigned to them.

We found that people would click the box icons without understanding that they were changing how tool buttons worked, and then we would get support questions about why their tool buttons no longer worked. The previous customization was too subtle and too easy to inadvertently change.

Now if you want to display a tool palette that is attached to a tool button, either right-click and hold, option left click and hold, or control left click and hold on the tool button.

Marlin, I can understand your reasons but from my perspective I think it is a pity that we lost that customization possibility. I strongly prefer the tool palettes, and now I have to combine two actions to get them (right-click is not very ergonomic on my pen tablet).

OK, I’ve logged a bug to reevaluate this and see if there is a more foolproof way to make this customizable again, but not accidentally customizable.
