IaaC NY Global Summer School 2017 (NYGSS17) - Space dynamics
July 3-16, 2017
New Lab
Building 128
Brooklyn Navy Yard
Brooklyn, NY 11205

The IaaC Global Summer School (GSS) platform is defined by an ambitious, multi-scalar investigation on the implications of emergent techniques in our planned environments. Each year, international teams located in key cities around the globe explore a common agenda with projects deeply embedded in diverse local conditions.

IaaC Network IAAC has an active alumni community distributed around the world for a decentralized expansion of IAAC expertise and knowledge. The constant involvement of the community in IAAC activities keeps the connections strong. IAAC GSS17 aims to empower the bonds with the community members, placing them in strategic positions to allow Global Summer School to take place simultaneously in different cities around the world: Barcelona, New York City, Monterey, Moscow, Tehran, Ahmedabad, Beirut, Beijing, Boulder and San Josè.

The GSS17 agenda focuses on the applications and implications of new technologies in the dynamic field of public space.

NY GSS17

The NY GSS aims to investigate emerging forms of producing public spaces, imagining the physical city through intelligent and mediated processes.

Through data agency and responsive urban processes, the NY GSS will explore the connection between producing emergent forms of urbanity and fabrication/robotic/responsive practices. NY GSS will focus on the feedback mechanism between scales, investigating the continuous loop between the micro and the macro relationships that occur in public spaces. The city of New York will be the expanded site of exploration. The investigations will critically reflect on the city as the shared, the common, the civic, and the social-public enterprise.

Generative design and computationally driven processes will take place throughout the program. A series of lectures from leading academics and international invited guests will construct the theoretical framework of the GSS, integrating and expanding the learning modules, with a final exhibition.

Applications are open until May 30, 2017
To register, participants need to submit the online application form, where they will be asked to upload a letter of intent and a CV. A portfolio is not required.
