How to use deconstruct path?

The screenshot/example is pretty self-explanatory: I have a tree, I want a list of the first-level branch numbers (as shown “{3}”, “{5}” etc) (without repeats). Looking at other similar posts here, people seem to say “just use deconstruct path” - but I don’t see how that helps here. How can I get the desired list? And can someone explain why deconstruct path is not behaving as I would expect it to, so I can l understand and learn? Many thanks.
