How to save a rendered file in order to print

How can I best save a rendered Rhino document in order to digitally print this later. The higher the dpi the better. A screen shot is way too small.
Ton

You can render with any resolution your renderer and computer will allow, not just screen resolution. You specify this in the renderer options/controls. Once rendered, it can be saved as a jpeg, png, tiff, etc.

Thanks for your quick response, Mitch.
I’m working with the beta version for Mac.
Where do I find the options/controls? I was at ‘preferences’ under Rhinoceros in the menubar and at ‘Render Properties’ under Render but cannot find where to specify these settings.
Also I cannot find the ‘Save As’. I looked under ‘File’ at Export and Export Selected but found no possibility to save as jpeg, etc.

I think you’re thinking of a screen capture… To “render” you need to actually launch a render… from the Render menu. With Mac, you can choose from either Rhino render or Toucan (Toucan is somewhat better). To set the resolution in the renderer, go to Render>Render properties, Basic tab, and check the “custom resolution” radio button - then set the resolution to what you want. Then set up your lights, materials etc. and render. Once the render is finished, you can save it as an image.

If all you want to do is capture the viewport in “rendered mode” without actually launching a render, type -_ViewCaptureToFile (make sure you use the -dash at the beginning); in the dialog give the file a name and type. In the next screen you will get a little dialog that will allow you to set the resolution of the capture - here you may set it higher resolution than the viewport size. Note: this is only possible with the current Beta (build 510) and later, as it was just added.

This was very helpful, Mitch, thanks.
The only thing is:’ you can save it as an image’… how do I do that?
I know how to in Adobe under ‘File’ but cannot find a similar choice in Rhino.

For a render? The render launches in a separate window, when it’s done you will see a “Save” button at the top of the window.

That works, Mitch, thank you very much.

Dear Mitch,

I didn’t ask the question but your answer was just what I needed! Thanks so much!
