Simplifying I have to optimize a simply supported beam with the left side in steel and the right side in concrete. The peculiarity of the thing is that the steel cross-sections are different from the concrete cross-sections.
I tried to optimize the steel part first and then connect the optimized model to the optimizer for the concrete part, but this is not how I want to do it, because the result is wrong.

Then you should assign the concrete and steel cross section to the separate beam elements, an the optimisation will optimise for both beams, but only in their specific family of cross sections.
actually, the script was working properly its just that your cross sections have the same name so you do not notice the different. Also its best if you set the starting cross section to be the smallest profile
