How to relocate gumball permanently?

Hello everybody, I have this question: Is there a way to relocate gumball for a group of objects permanently? I have these two objects rotation around an axis, which I have grouped and need to rotate a bit for figuring out the right angle, but when I relocate the gumball to the center of my axis, this location is gone after I have deselected the group and reselected it again. Is there a way to fix the gumball to the center of the axis for ever and always?
I find someone had the same question 8 years ago for Rhino Windows, but that must have been version 5 or so - I am in 7 for Mac, is there a way to do it now? And if not, in 8?
Thanks in advance - Jan

no not possible,i have requested this along time ago either, not sure what happened i believe it was made into a ticket.

That would be something nice to have

Temporary solution - make it into a block and place “set insertion point” as you please. Switch Gumball to “Align to object”. After you are done working on that part explode the block.

Thanks Pawel, that is a good idea, will try that out. Thanks a lot! Jan

i’d also find this really useful (here after searching for the same thing)

In “the other” software, each point, curve, surface, group, etc. has its own reference point that can be set by the user and is persistent, until the user changes its location again.

exactly. This is so useful and basic and it’s surprising that it hasn’t been implemented after all the versions. There are all sorts of nice and fancy tools in Rhino, but at the expense of missing the most core functions.

@janneuffer Gumball location gets preserved for groups in current Rhino WIP

@janneuffer one more note: As a workaround in Rhino 8 and earlier: you could draw a circle that ‘encloses’ the shapes and group it with the objects.

Thanks, I‘ll give that a try or may give the WIP a shot. Is there any idea when Rhino 9 will be available?

no, we don’t have a release date set. We’re still in WIP phase, and after that comes a public beta phase, for which no fixed date is set either.
