How to increasing mesh density in a local area of a surface

Hi everyone

I have a problem to scale the size of meshes in a local area of the surface. I need to have the smallesr mesh edges at the middle of the surface (indicated in the picture) and the more it moves away from the center, the size of the meshe edges gets bigger. I know that the Ball Pivoting can make this but I could not find a definition of it. If anyone knows how I can do this, please guide me.
