How to generate a TIN (triangulated irregular network) file

Topcon is a survey equipment manufacturer that has software which automatically controls construction equipment. The operator inputs a surface into the machine which controls its operation. The input file is a TIN file which is frequently used in terrain mapping and consists of a series of triangles matching the actual surface. I am trying to generate a TIN file using Rhino 6. I would like to know if there are any plug-ins or other software which uses Rhino that can generate this type of surface.

Did you figure it out Jake?

I’m also interested if you figured it out–TIN export from Rhino would save me quite a bit of time as an architect.

I have still not found a method to generate a TIN surface with Rhino. It would be helpful for me to be able to do it so I will continue to explore it.

Hi - as far as I know, the TIN file format is proprietary. You’ll have to find some other application that can write these.
